My Grandma Told me it was Pretty

"For many of us, the last months have meant long stretches of singular or group isolation and home-bound quarantines. This interruption of our “normal” lives has fostered a heightened awareness of the psychological and physical spaces that we often overlook. Artists have the singular capacity to remind us of those spaces."

- Tim Wride  William and Sarah Ross Soter Curator of Photography

People often overlook the locations that they encounter on a daily basis; however, considering current global events, many of said spaces have been left vacant, making their features impossible to ignore. The term liminal space is defined as a place that is devoid of many people or obviously defining characteristics which typically acts as a place of transition. Due to public health concerns, Jupiter High School students were unable to visit the Norton Museum of Art in-person this year; however,  students still had the remarkable opportunity to do so virtually.

Students were invited to create works inspired by the ones they viewed in conjunction with the novel experience of participating in the virtual museum tour with an emphasis on the concept of a liminal space. This exhibition aims to show insight on how individuals are inspired differently by the same experience. - Text by Dustin LaPlatte
